Due to his nationality... the membership of the fourth deputy to fall in the regime's "People's Assembly"

Unprecedented marathon changes affect the membership of the Syrian regime's parliament in its current session, casting a shadow over the procedures for candidacy and election of council deputies
The Syrian regime's People's Assembly decided today, unanimously by those present, to drop the membership of Representative "Mohamed Khaled Bassam Al-Zubaidi", elected from Damascus Governorate, for holding Algerian and Canadian citizenship in addition to his original Syrian nationality.
According to the pro-Syrian regime newspaper "Al-Watan", Article 152 of the Syrian Constitution prohibits those who hold non-Syrian citizenship from holding positions in the presidency and vice-presidency of the republic, the premiership and vice-premiership of the Council of Ministers and ministries, as well as membership in parliament and the Supreme Constitutional Court.
Al-Zubaidi is the fourth deputy in the current session of the People's Assembly whose membership has been dropped, after Shadi Dabsi, Muhammad Hamsho, and Muhammad Anas Al-Khatib. It is worth noting that last October, the parliament had allowed Al-Zubaidi to be prosecuted along with Representative Mujahid Ismail.
Al-Zubaidi is known to be a businessman who has been a member of the Syrian Federation of Tourism Chambers since 2019. He owns a chain of investment companies in the contracting, real estate and development sectors. He won the last parliamentary elections in Damascus within the category of economic activities.
It is noteworthy that the wave of changes in the membership of the current Syrian parliament is unprecedented for decades, and raises a number of questions about the procedures for candidacy and election of deputies before verifying that they meet the legal requirements.
